UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Allegheny College track and field programs sent three athletes to participate in Penn State University's Jim Thorpe Invitational on Friday.
From the men's team, junior transfer
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) continued to display outstanding athleticism with another record-setting performance. Moon, who had already broken a three-decade-old indoor long jump record in February, added the outdoor record to his name by clearing 7.14 meters on his second attempt. His jump surpassed the previous record of 7.08 meters set by Andre Bryan '18 in 2015. Moon was first out of three in the event, beating two jumpers from Penn State.
Likewise,
Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) won the javelin throw over two Nittany Lions. Lubold improved with her first four throws, climbing from 35.57 meters on her initial attempt to a personal record of 39.72 meters on her fourth try. She beat the runner-up from Penn State by more than 11 meters, and her new PR ranks fifth all-time in team history.
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) competed in the hammer throw on Friday. Her first toss was measured at 48.89 meters, the second-best mark of her career. Davis placed fourth out of five throwers in the event.
Among national leaders, Moon now ranks 26th in the long jump, and Lubold is 31st. Davis, who set a PR in the hammer at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic two weeks ago, is 29th in Division III.
Davis, Lubold, and Moon will return to Meadville for the Gators' annual home meet, the Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational, on Thursday, May 9.
