Seven Baseball Players Garner All-PAC Laurels

PAC Release

TRAFFORD, Pa. --
Seven members of the Allegheny College baseball program were recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with All-PAC accolades following the 2024 campaign.

Four Gators - Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely), Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)), Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice), and Brent Herrmann (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) - were named to the All-PAC First Team.

JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) was included on the All-PAC Second Team, while Dawson Thomas (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) and Mark Schweickert (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) earned Honorable Mention status.

A 2023 All-PAC Honorable Mention at first base, Nolin switched to the hot corner and was promoted to the first team this spring. Not only did he managed the defensive adjustments with ease, but the third-year infielder batted a career-high .333 and set numerous single-season bests, including hits (52), runs (36), walks (23), stolen bases (16), and on-base percentage (.436). Nolin had a 28-game on-base streak, the second-best on the team, and tied a program record with three doubles in a 17-7 win over Hiram College on April 15.

Bryant-Dawson earned a spot on the All-PAC First Team for the second straight spring after posting gaudy numbers in nearly every statistical category. The five-tool star paced all Gators in slugging percentage (.561), total bases (97), runs (49), RBIs (47), stolen bases (31), extra-base hits (22), home runs (7). The junior outfielder led the PAC in RBIs and stolen bases, but the speedy runner ranks among the top 25 in all of Division III in stolen bags. His 60 hits and 14 doubles are also single-season career-highs.

Jennings is responsible for one of the most remarkable stats of the 2024 season. The junior right fielder reached base safely in all 41 games and ended the year with a 34-game hit streak. Dating back to 2023, he's reached base in 42 consecutive contests, tied for the 18th-longest streak in Division III history. His team-leading 69 hits are more than double what he produced in 2023 alone and are the most by an Allegheny hitter since 2000. He also fueled an aggressive base-running team that ranks 19th nationally with 23 stolen bases of his own.

A workhorse on the mound, Herrmann was the leader of Allegheny's pitching staff in his senior season. In 12 starts and 77.0 innings, he struck out 51, held opponents to a .234 batting average, logged two complete games, and twirled a shutout; each of those categories represent single-season career-bests. Against the University of Rochester on March 16, the southpaw blanked the Yellowjackets in a two-hit shutout in one of the best performances by an Allegheny hurler in recent memory.

A transfer from CCBC Essex, Robinson assumed the starting shortstop role during the fall ball season and flourished in his first year with the Gators. His .467 on-base percentage was the best in the Allegheny lineup, and he was second with a .350 batting average and .552 slugging percentage. Robinson made his presence felt early in the season, as he crushed a two-out double to lead the Blue and Gold to a walk-off victory in the second half of the doubleheader against Rochester in mid-March.

Another newcomer this season, Thomas developed into one of the pitching staff's best arms throughout an incredible freshman year. The local product from nearby Conneaut Area Senior High School led all qualified pitchers with a 3.05 ERA and a .201 batting average against in 12 appearances (six starts). In addition to his 6-1 record, the right-hander ranks fifth in all of Division III in WHIP (0.83), seventh in walks allowed per nine (1.02), and 21st in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6-to-1).

A repeat All-PAC Honorable Mention, Schweickert was an important piece of the pitching staff as a starter and reliever. He made starts in 10 of his 14 games, posting a 7-3 record with one save in 63.0 innings. The hard-throwing righty struck out 49, second only to Herrmann, including a season-high nine in a complete-game shutout against Westminster College on March 29. Schweickert also earned Allegheny's postseason win in the first game of the 2024 PAC Tournament with 7.1 innings of two-run ball against Waynesburg University on May 8.

Senior outfielder Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) was also recognized after being named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team. The PAC's Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to both recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams.
