Men's Tennis Completes Undefeated PAC Slate For Second Consecutive Spring

Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. -- For the second consecutive season, the Allegheny College men's tennis team has run the table in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). On Sunday, the defending PAC champions completed another undefeated conference slate by defeating Thiel College, 9-0, in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

The Gators (13-5, 8-0 PAC) had already secured the PAC's regular-season title following their last victory at Franciscan University, but extended their regular-season conference win streak to 16 straight contests by taming the Tomcats (1-9, 0-8 PAC). Allegheny earned bye through the quarterfinal round of the 2024 PAC Championship Tournament and will host a semifinal match on Thursday, April 25, against the winner of the quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Franciscan and fifth-seeded Washington and Jefferson College.

Sunday's win over Thiel was nothing more than a formality. The Gators won 96 of the 99 total games played with six shutouts. Allegheny won two of the three doubles matches with 8-0 scores, and four of the six singles matches ended 6-0, 6-0. The match took a little more than an hour to complete.

Sophomore Dario Wolfe (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) broke into the lineup for the first time against a PAC opponent and teamed up with Mitchell Curtis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora). Wolfe and Curtis blanked their opponents in the third singles match, improving to 2-0 as a tandem this season.

Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) earned their 18th win as a duo in the top spot. Hedlund then took down Thiel's top singles player, Eli Flinchbaugh, for his team-leading 19th singles win of the season. Hedlund, Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), and Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) each finished the regular-season with singles wins in all eight PAC matches this spring.
