SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team traveled to nearby Slippery Rock University on Thursday for the 2024 John Papa Invitational.
Two of the best performances of the day came from Allegheny's relay squads. The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of
Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton),
Logan Wagner (Woodville, Ohio/Oak Harbor),
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), finished second overall with a time of 4:01.27. The Gators, the only Division III team in the race, finished ahead of "A" teams from Youngstown State University, PennWest Clarion, and Pitt-Johnstown. Allegheny's time ranks first in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and is more than 10 seconds ahead of second place.
Romanowski,
Clarissa Miller (Hopkinsville, Ky./University Heights),
Skye Kramer (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland), and
AB Snyder (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) represented the Blue and Gold in the 4x100-meter relay. The quartet placed fourth, but their time of 51.37 seconds ranks second in the conference.
That wasn't all for Romanowski. The senior also set a personal record and led all Gators in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.24 seconds. She was one of nine Allegheny track athletes to set a PR, as every Gator in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, and 400m hurdles recorded personal bests.
In the field events, standout freshman
Corinne Inkley (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) tied for first place with a PR in the pole vault. Inkley was one of eight jumpers to clear 3.60 meters, but finished in a three-way tie for first place. She successfully passed every height she attempted from 2.85 meters through 3.60 meters on the first attempt. Her PR also tied a program outdoor record, set by Sarah Sammel '08 in 2006.
