MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Allegheny College javelin throwers
Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) and
Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) represented the women's track and field program in the first outdoor meet of the 2024 season, the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Classic, on Friday morning.
The two Gators finished in the top 6 in the javelin in their season debut in a deep field that included athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, plus the NAIA.Â
Lubold showed no signs of rust following a breakthrough freshman campaign last spring. The second-year thrower placed third overall behind Ali Wilson-Ruffin (40.98 meters) from Division I The Citadel and three-time Division III All-American Isabelle Deal (40.42 meters), a fifth-year senior at Rowan University. Lubold's best throw was her first attempt, which reached 37.15 meters. She also reached 37.11 meters on her second throw.Â
In her first collegiate javelin competition, Bawek finished sixth. However, she was the third-best Division III thrower at the meet behind Rowan's Deal and her fellow Gator. She achieved her top mark on her last of six attempts, which measured 34.99 meters. Bawek narrowly edged fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) athlete Emily Garvin of Geneva College, who was seventh at 34.77 meters.
