OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team returned from Oberlin College's Bob Kahn Invitational on Friday and Saturday with five gold medals and six All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying performances.
The Gators were outstanding in all areas of the competition, earning first-place finishes in the sprints, mid-distance, distance races, jumps, and throws.Â
In the 200- and 400-meter dashes,
Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) led all Gators with a pair of podium finishes. She was a mere four-thousandths of a second shy of the winner in the 200m and then won the 400m with a personal-record time of 1:00.22.
In the 800-meter mid-distance run, Allegheny placed six runners into the top 10. That included the winner,
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), who hit an AARTFC standard at 2:20.79.
In addition to a sixth-place effort in the 800m,
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) set a PR in the 1,500-meter race. She was the runner-up with a time of 4:51.39, just over a half-second better than her previous PR from last year's Carnegie Mellon University Invitational.
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) smoked the competition in the 5,000-meter distance race. She also logged a new PR and an AARTFC qualifier at 18:14.89 with a lead of more than 32 seconds over the runner-up from Baldwin Wallace University.
First-year standout
Corinne Inkley (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) had a busy weekend with a trio of solid performances. Not only did she tie for first in the pole vault, but she was fourth in the long jump (4.77 meters) and 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.86 seconds). Inkley's pole vault tied her PR, while her other two marks were both personal bests.
Third-year thrower
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) was the final Gator to secure a first-place finish. After placing second at the Bob Kahn Invitational last season, she was victorious in the shot put at 11.46 meters.
