MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Allegheny College women's track and field produced numerous top-10 finishes and two All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifiers over the weekend at West Virginia University's Stan Romanoski Open.
Allegheny's throwers were responsible for five top-10 performances. Leading all Gators with a third-place finish in the javelin was
Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area), who hit an AARTFC standard for the second time in two meets to start the outdoor season. Lubold's best mark was 36.42 meters, as she placed behind two Division I athletes from the University at Buffalo and Duquesne University. First-year thrower
Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) joined Lubold in the top 10 by placing eighth out of 33 total athletes at 33.91 meters.
In the hammer,
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) was the only Division III athlete inside the top 10. She set a new personal record by reaching 44.22 meters, good enough for seventh place. Fellow junior
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) had a similar result in the shot put. Miller also placed seventh and was the top performer among the D-III throwers in the event at 11.37 meters.
Sophomore
Jacqueline DiGiacomo (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) led a quartet of Gators in the discus while also leading the pack of Division III participants. Her first throw traveled 33.78 meters as she finished 10th out of 52 total athletes in the event.
Third-year distance runner
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) ran her first-ever 5,000-meter track race. She was fifth out of 35 runners with a time of 18:37.83, an AARTFC qualifying mark.
Competing in the 1,500-meter steeplechase for the first time since last year's Stan Romanoski Open,
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) was fifth behind Australian Olympic athlete Amy Cashin and three D-I runners from UB. Crist was clocked at 5:28.10.
Allegheny was the only school to run the 4x400-meter relay.
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora),
Samantha Oakes (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads),
Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford), and
