MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Allegheny College men's track and field team opened the outdoor portion of the 2023-24 season at West Virginia University's Stan Romanoski Open at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park.

For the Gators, it was their first look at the Mylan Park facility of the spring. WVU's complex will also host the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Championships in late April.

Allegheny's best finisher was second-year thrower Jonah Wells (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield Township). Wells was fifth out of 24 in the javelin. His best throw was his third, which traveled 45.35 meters, the third-best mark of his career.

On the track, four Gators earned top-15 finishes. Xavier Grove (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA) was ninth in the 1,500-meter steeplechase at 4:54.22, the second-best time among Division III athletes. Likewise, Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) was the second-best D-III runner in the 5,000-meter run, placing 13th out of 59 at 15:47.30.

Austin Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) was Allegheny's best sprinter, placing 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.45 seconds. Zack Wyse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was 14th in the 800-meter mid-distance race but was the fourth-best D-III runner with a time of 2:02.65.
