YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Third-year throwers
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) and
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) guided the Allegheny College women's track and field team to a runner-up performance at the 2023-24 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday.
At Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS), the Gators - last year's PAC champions - put together a second-place performance. In addition to a pair of individual championships from the duo of Davis and Miller, Allegheny won two silver medals and one bronze.
Davis and Miller stole the show in the throws. Davis not only set a new personal record in the weight throw, but her mark of 16.16 meters ranks third all-time in indoor program history. Her winning toss was more than six feet better than her previous PR, and she was 1.11 meters better than the runner-up from Bethany College. Davis, who placed fifth in the shot put, recorded All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC)-qualifying marks in both events.
Now a two-time indoor shot put champion and three-time overall PAC champion, Miller's fifth attempt traveled a season-best 12.10 meters. She was the only thrower to surpass 12 meters in the event, and she also had an AARTFC qualifier.
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) both had PRs in the 400-meter dash and 5,000-meter run, respectively, and both placed second. Tetlow also helped the 4x400-meter relay team secure a third-place performance alongside
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora),
Skye Kramer (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland), and
Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton).
Cocca, who took fourth in the 800-meter mid-distance race, had Allegheny's only other AARTFC qualifier with a time of 2:19.77.
