GENEVA, Ohio -- One of nearly 40 colleges and universities in attendance, the Allegheny College women's track and field team competed at the SPIRE Institute's SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games on Saturday.
The Gators competed against many teams from Division I, II, and III programs and the NAIA in one of the region's largest indoor track and field events.
In the pole vault, first-year standout
Corinne Inkley (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) placed 17th overall, but was third among Division III competitors. Her mark of 3.30 meters was her second-best of the season.
Junior thrower
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) had an equally impressive performance in the weight throw. She set a new personal record at 14.49 meters, good enough for 16th overall. However, Davis was the best Division III thrower in the event behind 13 Division I and two Division II athletes.
On the track,
Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) had Allegheny's best finish of the day in the 300-meter dash. She was fifth out of 19 behind two sprinters from D-I Robert Morris University and a pair of Canadians from York University in Ontario with a time of 42.85 seconds.
Two of the three Gators in the 800-meter run set PRs, including
Renee Tetlow (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva). In her hometown, Tetlow paced the trio in 16th at 2:22.24.
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) also had PR in the one-mile race with a time of 5:22.93 while leading the Gators with a 20th-place performance. Likewise,
Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was one of three Allegheny distance runners with a PR in the 3,000-meter race and 18th at 10:46.41.
