WARREN, Ohio --
The Allegheny College men's golf team doubled its lead over Washington and Jefferson College in the second round of the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Championships on Tuesday.

The Gators entered the second round of the fall portion of the PAC Championships with a nine-stroke advantage over W&J. For the second day in a row, Allegheny finished nine strokes ahead of the Presidents, as the Blue and Gold extended their lead despite wet conditions at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.

At the halfway point, Allegheny sits in first place with a 36-hole score of 589 (+13). The Presidents are second with a 607 (+31), followed by Westminster College in third with a 623 (+47). The winner of the 2024-25 PAC Championship will be determined following the spring half of the tournament, which will be held at the Mill Creek South Course in Boardman, Ohio, in late April.

Not only did the Gators add to their lead on Tuesday, but all five remained situated inside the top 10. No other team had more than three golfers in the top 15.

Two-time defending PAC champion Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East) wrapped up the first 36 holes as the only golfer in the conference below par. The senior standout carded a 1-over 73 in the second round and is 4-under overall with a cumulative score of 140. Hassenplug holds a six-stroke advantage over Saint Vincent College's Matt Edwards in second place.

Fellow senior Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) fired an even-par 72, Allegheny's best second-round score, thanks to birdies on three of the last five holes. Melzar climbed four spots up the leaderboard and is now in third place with a 148 (+4).

Senior Nadir Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School) also jumped several places, moving from a tie for ninth to sole possession of fifth. Khan's 1-over 73 also featured a strong performance on the back nine with four birdies. Both Khan and junior Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)), who is tied for sixth place, logged a team-high five birdies during round two.
