WARREN, Ohio -- The defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from the Allegheny College men's golf team flexed their muscle during the first round of the 2024 PAC Fall Championships on Monday at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio.

The Gators are off to a strong start with a cumulative 295 (+7). Not only is Allegheny nine strokes ahead of second-place Washington and Jefferson College, but all five Gators ended the opening round inside the top 10. That includes the individual leader and two-time defending medalist Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East), who sits in first place.

Hassenplug carded a tournament-best six birdies on Monday. After a bogey on the par-3 eighth, he birdied five of the last 10 holes. Hassenplug began to pull away on the back nine, finishing 4-under en route to a first-round total of 67 (-5). One of only three golfers below par, the Allegheny senior holds a two-stroke advantage over W&J's Luke Melisko (69, -3) and leads by four against Saint Vincent College's Matt Edwards (71, -1).

Dylan Kochis (Saint Augustine, Fla./B. Reed Henderson (Pa.)) began 2-under on the front nine and tied for fifth place overall with a 75 (+3). He's only one stroke ahead of Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional), who tied for seventh with a 76 (+4). Fellow Gators Nadir Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School) and Connor Bell (Montrose, Colo./Montrose) are locked in a five-way tie for ninth place with identical scores of 77 (+5).

One of only three teams with multiple student-athletes inside the top 10, Allegheny is the only institution to place all five inside the top 20.
