BEREA, Ohio -- For the second weekend in a row,
Aaron Moon (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) was victorious in one of the jumping events to highlight Allegheny College men's track and field at Baldwin Wallace University's Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge.
Since transferring to Allegheny, Moon has been an exceptional athlete, competing in numerous events. After winning the triple jump at the Fighting Scots Invitational last week, he placed atop the podium in the long jump on Saturday in Berea. His mark of 6.52 meters on his second of six attempts was 0.26 meters better than the runner-up from Baldwin Wallace.
The Gators posted six total top-three finishes while placing fourth out of six teams with 39.5 total points.
Grant Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area), who won the pole vault last week at the College of Wooster, tied his personal record at 3.80 meters. That height was good enough to tie BWU's Ben Potasiewicz for second place.
Colm Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) collected a silver medal in the one-mile race. Mulligan was one of only three with a sub-4:31.00 time and was just 3.1 seconds off behind the winner from Baldwin Wallace.
The Gators were successful in the other two distance races as well. Three of the top eight finishers in the 3,000-meter run were from Allegheny:
Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) in fifth,
Caleb Freeman (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) in sixth, and
Xavier Grove (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA) in eighth. In the 5,000-meter race,
Desmond Corrado (Crafton, Pa./Carlynton) came in third place with a time of 16:21.70.
