NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Allegheny College women's tennis swept the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) weekly awards after opening conference play with a pair of victories last week.
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) was crowned the Player of the Week, while fellow first-year
Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) was named the Newcomer of the Week after leading the Gators to wins over Franciscan University and Waynesburg University.
In a rematch of the 2022 PAC championship against the Barons, Grydnieva and Etsumi teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. Etsumi then defeated Margaret Vernau in fifth singles, 6-4, 7-5, and Grydnieva won the clinching match in second singles in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, as Allegheny defeated Franciscan, 5-4.
The duo then jumped to No. 1 doubles against Waynesburg and easily won 8-1. In their singles matches against the Yellow Jackets, both were 6-0, 6-0 winners.
The Gators are on the road for the second day in a row this afternoon. Allegheny will face Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
