Hedlund Garners Fourth PAC Player of the Week Award

PAC Release

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. --
For the fourth time this season, Allegheny College tennis standout Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week.

Hedlund finished the 2022-23 regular season with the most Player of the Week awards in the conference; no other player earned more than one. He also helped the Gators secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PAC Championships with three wins last week.

As Allegheny's No. 1 player, Hedlund helped the Gators beat Westminster College, 9-0, Grove City College, 8-1, and the College of Wooster, 5-4. The sophomore from Sweden earned doubles wins by scores of 8-2 against Westminster, 8-4 against Grove City, and 8-4 against Wooster. He earned a crucial victory over the Fighting Scots' top tandem, as it was Allegheny's only doubles point in the narrow one-point match.

As a singles player, Hedlund, who ranked 24th in the Central Region, earned three straight-set wins and gave up no more than three points in any set.

Hedlund and the Gators have earned a bye into the semifinal round of the PAC Championships. They'll host the winner of the quarterfinal between Franciscan University and Geneva College at the Robertson Tennis Complex on Thursday, April 27, at 4:00 p.m.
