Cheema Posts Runner-Up Finish to Lead Gators at McDaniel Spring Invite

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Second-year linksman Faaris Cheema (Dubai, UAE/Kings School Al Barsha) led the Allegheny College men's golf team with a second-place performance at the 2023 McDaniel College Spring Invite.

The two-day tournament at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, was reduced to an 18-hole event due to poor weather on Saturday. However, conditions were prime for Cheema and the Gators on Sunday, as Allegheny placed fourth overall out of 17 teams with a 308 (+20).

All five Gators at the tournament performed better on the back nine, but Cheema was the only Allegheny golfer below par on the final nine holes. He sunk birdies on the par-4 13th and 14th, the par-3 16th, and the par-5 18th to close with a 3-under 33 on the back nine and an even 72 for the day. Cheema was only three strokes back of the individual medalist, Patrick Kilcoyne (69) of Gettysburg College.

Bergas Anargya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Binus School Simprug) wasn't far behind. The fellow sophomore was locked in a three-way tie for fourth place out of the 90-man field with a 2-over 74. He finished with two birdies, both of which were scored on par 5s.
