PITTSBURGH -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team made the short trip down I-79 to compete in the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25.
The Gators, who placed eighth in the team standings, received several personal records with one victory over the two-day invitational.
On Saturday, sophomore
Marrin Crist (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) won her first-ever collegiate race in the eight-person 3,000-meter steeplechase. Crist set a PR at 12:04.75 and finished with a lead of nearly 12 seconds over Anessa Pigula of Division II Seton Hill University.
Three of the four Gators who ran the 5,000-meter distance race turned in PR times. That included
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), the runner-up after Alyssa Campbell from Point Park University. Aaron was 68-hundredths of a second behind Campbell with a time of 17:42.70.
Leuca Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) and
Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who were eighth and 10th, respectively, also set personal records in the event.
In the sprints,
Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was top 6 in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes. Her time of 57.65 seconds in the 400m was a PR, as the standout senior finished fourth behind two Division I athletes from Duquesne University and Carnegie Mellon's recent Division III indoor pentathlon national champion, Elizabeth Barre.
In the field,
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) PR'd in all three events in which she participated. She was third in the shot put (12.41 meters), seventh in the discus (34.37 meters), and 20th in the hammer throw (36.11 meters).
