No. 2 Case Western Reserve Too Much For Men's Tennis to Handle

Box Score MAYFIELD, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team faced a difficult challenge in its first match of the spring season, as the Gators fell to No. 2 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.

The loss marked Allegheny's (3-1) first in a dual match this season, while last year's NCAA Division III runners-up from CWRU improved to 6-2.

In doubles action, Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/ Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and Ethan Carr (King of Prussia, Pa./Harriton) were the only Gator tandem to take a game from the Spartans despite facing the top-ranked doubles team in the nation in James Hopper and Vishwa Aduru.

Hedlund also faced Hopper, who is ranked 34th in the country, in first singles. Trailing 1-0 in the second set, the Allegheny sophomore won back-to-back games and briefly took a 2-1 lead before Hopper came from behind to secure the win, 6-2, 6-2.

Carr and Julien Voisey (Tokyo, Japan/ES International School) each won three games against their singles opponents at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
