CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Allegheny College women's track and field team opened the 2023-24 indoor season with a strong performance at Case Western Reserve University's 10th Annual Spartan Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Allegheny returned home with two gold medals among some impressive debuts by first-year student-athletes.
Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and
Logan Wagner (Woodville, Ohio/Oak Harbor) performed well in the sprints and mid-distance events. In addition to a personal-record time in the 60-meter dash, Romanowski won the 400-meter dash with a PR time of 1:02.08. Wagner also logged a pair of PRs, highlighted by a victory in the 500-meter run in 1:24.25.
One of four rookies making their collegiate debut with the Gators,
AB Snyder (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had a pair of top-five finishes in the long jump (5.06 meters) and triple jump (10.08 meters). Classmate
Corinne Inkley (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 3.05 meters in her first collegiate meet.
The Gators showed out in the shot put, too. Allegheny occupied half of the top-eight spots in the shot put, led by junior
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton). Davis was the runner-up with a distance of 11.24 meters, just four-hundredths of a meter shy of the winner from John Carroll University.Â
Davis nearly missed a PR in the weight throw, as she finished fourth with a mark of 14.21 meters.
