PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. – Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive Player of the Year as a trio of Gators earned all-conference honors for the 2023 season.
In addition to the Defensive Player of the Year honor, Diaz was a First Team selection.
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) was named to the Second Team while
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) was named to the Honorable Mention Team.
Diaz, a sophomore libero, earned her second All-PAC honor after being named to the Second Team in 2022. For the year, Diaz led the Gator backline with 618 digs. That dig total was not only top in the PAC, but ranked seventh in all of Division III. Diaz had 14 games with at least 20 digs, including a career-high 38 against Grove CIty in the first round of the PAC Championships. In addition to leading the team in digs, Diaz also led the team with 74 aces, which ranks as the second highest total for a Gator in a season. The 74 aces also ranked 12th in Division III. Against Grove City in the regular season, Diaz set the program record with nine aces in three sets. Throughout the season, Diaz earned a pair of PAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Defensive Player of the Year accolade was the first time a Gator has earned that honor from a conference, and was the first conference Player of the Year award received by Allegheny since Vicki Kajder was named North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Rookie of the Year in 2000.
Javes, a junior middle hitter, also earned her second All-PAC selection after being Honorable Mention in 2022. For the season, Javes was third on the team with 299 kills while leading with a hitting percentage of .301. That hitting percentage was the third highest in the conference. Javes had 13 games with 10 or more kills, including a pair of games with 20 or more. She had a season and career-high 24 kills against Geneva. Against Penn State Behrend in September, Javes set a program record for hitting percentage in a three set match, hitting for 14 kills on 20 attempts, a percentage of .700. She also had a pair of games that were top five in program history for hitting percentage in a five set match. Additionally, Javes tallied 83.0 blocks to lead the team. Throughout the season, Javes earned two PAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Chambers, a senior outside and middle hitter, earned her first all-conference nod. She finished second on the team with 330 kills. Chambers had 23 games with 10 or more kills throughout the year. She matched a career-high with 17 kills against Westminster. In addition to the offensive production, Chambers had 41 blocks. She acheived a season-high four blocks against Bethany in the regular season. Chambers also totaled 51 digs on the season, including six against Saint Vincent.
In addition to the All-PAC selections,
Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team. The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior, and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams and student-athletes.
