NORTON, Ohio -- Allegheny College men's cross country concluded the 2023 campaign at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by John Carroll University on a cool autumn morning at Silver Creek Metro Park.
As a team, the Gators placed 22nd out of 40 teams with 601 total points. Allegheny was well ahead of the only other Presidents' Athletics Conference (PAC) team in the Great Lakes Region, Franciscan University, which was 32nd with 908 points.
Allegheny's runners grouped together for much of the race. The five counting runners were only 44.5 seconds apart, as the Gators were one of only a dozen teams to have its top five finish less than a minute apart. When including all seven runners, the Gators were only 74 seconds apart.
Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) was the first Gator to reach the finish line. The senior placed 92nd out of 278 total competitors with a new personal record. His time around the eight-kilometer course was 25:29.0. It's only the second time Lantz has broken 26 minutes in an 8K race, with the other being last year's regional, where he finished in 93rd place.
Lantz wasn't the only Gator to log a PR time. Six of seven Allegheny runners finished the regional with a new personal best.Â
Sam Hetrick (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) and
Lucas Bradley (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) were a mere seven-tenths of a second apart at 25:51.7 and 25:52.4, respectively. Similarly,
Colm Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) and
Nick Gallo (Chester, W.Va./Oak Glen) were only 3.2 seconds apart at 26:10.3 and 26:13.5. All four times were PRs.
