GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Allegheny College men's cross country ran well en route to a fourth-place finish at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational, hosted by the Bullets of Gettysburg College on a cold and rainy Saturday morning.

In the eight-kilometer race around the Gettysburg campus, the Gators were the best Division III team. Although Allegheny placed fourth, the race winner was the Georgetown Running Club, and the next two teams were Division I programs from St. Bonaventure University and Mount St. Mary's University. 

Among D-III competitors, the Gators bested the likes of Franklin and Marshall College, York College (Pa.), and Susquehanna University, all of whom appeared in the regional rankings at some point this fall. 

Out of 263 runners, four Gators placed inside the 50, and the fifth counting runner was 51st. 

Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) paced Allegheny in 24th and was about 10 seconds off his personal-record pace at 26:04.3. Three places behind Lantz, Caleb Freeman (Killingworth, Conn. /Haddam-Killingworth) set an 8K PR with a time of 26:09.4. Sam Hetrick (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) placed 34th, trimmed nearly a minute off of his time from the Paul Short Run, as the first-year runner clocked in at 26:20.5.

Each of the next five finishers from Allegheny also set new PRs.
