Box Score MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team started the fall portion of the 2022-23 season with a slew of singles matches on the first day of the Allegheny Invitational, hosted by the Gators at the Robertson Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Due to inclement weather, Sunday's matches were canceled, including the doubles portion of the event.
In total, 10 different Gators played 13 matches in the opening round, six of which earned at least one victory. Two players -
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
Adam Shinomiya (Portland, Ore./International School of Beaverton) - were able to secure a pair of wins.
Hedlund swept Alex Medina Puigmarti from Walsh University (6-1, 6-3) but had a much tougher match against his Walsh teammate, Lukas Kohler. After Kohler won the first set, 6-3, Hedlund fought back to take the second, 6-4. He then won the 10-point tiebreaker by a 10-4 score.
Shinomiya took down Jay Fortner of Capital University, 6-4, 6-3, before handing Grant North from Oberlin College a 6-2, 6-2 loss.
