MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's golf team placed third at the 49th annual Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial, hosted by the Gators over a rain-soaked two-day stretch at the Country Club of Meadville.

Despite conditions, all 36 holes were played on Sunday and Monday, and Allegheny's "A" Team of Zachary Melzar (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional), Carter Hassenplug (North East, Pa./North East), Tanner Sliker (Edinboro, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Faaris Cheema (Dubai, UAE/Kings School Al Barsha), and Bergas Anargya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Binus School Simprug) finished third with a two-round total of 603 (+27). Division II Gannon University was the only team to compile a score under par and won the crown with a 3-under 573.

Hassenplug, who sunk six birdies, led the Gators with a fifth-place performance. He was 1-under through the first 18 holes and followed up with a 2-over 74 on Monday. He succeeded on the par-5 third hole on both days, recording a birdie each time.

Also inside the top 10 was Sliker, who was part of a three-way tie for ninth overall. Like Hassenplug, Sliker logged a 1-under 71 on Sunday with birdies on the first, sixth, ninth, and 18 holes. On Monday, the senior was 6 over with a 78, but managed to birdie the first hole once again.

Melzar and Cheema both turned in strong round-one efforts with a 73 (+1) and 74 (+2), respectively. However, they were unable to keep up the pace on the last 18, as both Gators carded a 9-over 81. Melzar tied for 16th, while Cheema tied for 23rd out of 82 competitors.
