Gators win four titles at NCAC Championships

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Allegheny track and field teams competed in their final North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, hosted by Oberlin, May 4-5.
 
The women finished fifth with 91 points while the men took sixth with 76 points. Overall, the Gators had 12 All-NCAC finishes.
 
The Gator 4x100 meter team of Tylir Shannon (Reynolds, Pa./Transfer), Nick Murawski (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), Holden Ford (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and Anthony Steinpreis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) won the conference championship with a time of 42.56. That time was the fourth fastest in Allegheny history.
 
In addition to being a part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team, Shannon collected an individual title in the 200 meter dash. He crossed the finish line at 21.68 seconds for the victory. That time is the second fastest in Allegheny history.
 
Shannon also earned a second-place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.86 seconds. Steinpries took eighth with a time of 11.49 seconds.
 
Jacob Boord (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) defended his 2021 javelin title by winning his second straight championship. His throw of 53.09 proved to be the best in the conference once again. Boord currently owns the sixth best throw in the country this year.
 
Logan Meyer (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) earned All-NCAC honors as he finished third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:58.64.
 
Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) earned points for the Gators by finishing seventh in the 800 meter run, clocking in at 2:01.16 while Ford took eighth in the long jump at 6.35 meters.
 
The 4x400 relay team of Murawski, McAuliffe, Kevin Long (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), Shannon took seventh with a time of 3:31.88.
 
Jacob King (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) had a trio of top-eight finishes. He placed fourth in both the hammer throw and the discus with heaves of 45.46 meters and 40.13 meters, respectively, while taking seventh in the shot put with a toss of 13.23 meters. Hamilton Kraemer (North East, Pa./North East) (38.42 meters) took sixth with a discus with a throw of 38.42 meters.
 
Stephen Cullinan (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) competed in the decathlon portion of the championships, taking fourth-place with a score of 5,577 points. He was the runner-up in the 400 meter dash, the 1500 meter run and the discus. Additionally, he participated in the pole vault at the main event, taking seventh place.

Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) brought home an individual title for the Gators. After taking second in the preliminaries of the 400 meter dash, Toader improved her time by over a second, crossing the finish line at 58.32 to win the title. That time is the second fastest in Gator history.
 
During the preliminary round of the 200 meter dash, Toader broke the school record with a time of 25.53. The previous record of 25.80 was set by Becky Rittenhouse in 2003. In the finals of the event, Toader improved that mark by .05 seconds, finishing second at a time of 25.48 seconds, earning All-Conference honors. In addition to her finishes in the sprinting events, Toader placed fifth in the triple jump with a  distance of 10.53 meters.
 
The 4x100 meter relay team of Toader, Eva Martino (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Melina Mangino (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) and Zoe Romanowski (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) finished fourth with a time of 50.26. The 4x400 relay team of Ela Williams (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley), Cocca and Toader also finished fourth with a time of 4:15.07.
 
Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.34, while Martino finished the 100 meter dash in 12.75 seconds to take seventh.
 
For the Gator hurdlers, Mangino finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.17 while Kelechi Dimgba (Greece, N.Y./Greece Athena) took seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.85.
 
Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was the runner-up in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:14.23. Hailey Stupay (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) took eighth in the event at 40:15.80. Aaron also had a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:00.12.
 
Sarah Maue (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) earned All-NCAC honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as she finished third with a time of 11:48.68. Maue also placed fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:59.25. Molly Tarvin (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) finished eighth in the event with a time of 5:01.75.
 
Hope Gomez (Laveen, Ariz./Valley Christian) had the top finish for the women's throwers as she was the runner-up in the javelin. Her toss of 33.23 meters earned All-NCAC honors. Emma Miller (Elryia, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) earned All-NCAC honors in the shot put, placing third with a toss of 11.83 meters. Lydia Giannini (Warren, Pa./Eisenhower) rounded out point scorers for the throwers with a fifth-place finish in the shot put and an eighth-place effort in the javelin.
 
Allegheny will host its annual home meet, the Marty Goldberg Gator Invite, on May 12.
