CLEVELAND, Ohio – Allegheny's
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) has earned North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week laurels after her performance in the first week of collegiate competition.
In three appearances (two starts), Dzierba went 1-1 over 19.2 innings and tossed a pair of complete games in her starts.
In her collegiate debut at Waynesburg on March 15, Dzierba scattered three hits and struck out seven in 6.0 innings. She allowed just one run, an unearned run that proved to be the difference in the final score. The freshman entered in relief on March 19 against Kalamazoo and tossed 6.2 innings with just one earned run allowed and five hits and three strikeouts. In a start against Gustavus-Adolphus on March 20, she threw 7.0 innings and scattered seven hits and struck out six in the complete-game shutout.
Dzierba and the Gators are currently in Florida taking part in their annual Spring Break trip. Allegheny returns to action on Wednesday, March 23 at the Legends Complex in Clermont, Fla., beginning with a 9:15 a.m. first pitch against MIT.
