MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's swimming and diving team kick-started a new season with a lopsided victory over Washington and Jefferson College, as the Gators defeated the Presidents in the Mellon Pool, 163-35.
Of the 14 competitions on Friday night, the Gators (1-0) came out on top in all but one race. Nathan Smith claimed the only first-place finish for W&J (0-2) with a 2.15-second lead in the 200-yard backstroke.
Six different Gators turned in a first-place performance, in addition to both relay teams. Second-year standout
Daniel Jackson (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) led the way with a trio of wins and swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay.
Jackson was the only swimmer in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.70) but cruised to a 24.6-second victory over W&J's Matt Allgeier in the 200-yard breaststroke. His time in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:42.65) was more than a minute-and-a-half better than teammate
Daniel Logue (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) (12:15.34).
Emmett Manning (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel),
Dalton Lodzins (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak), and
Pierre Jaeggi (Fountain Valley, Calif./Valiant Prep) each won two individual races, and all three joined Jackson in the winning effort in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.83).
