MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College volleyball team will "Play for Puerto Rico" on Saturday, October 15, when the Gators host Bethany College inside the David V. Wise Center at 1:00 p.m.
Puerto Rico, devastated by Hurricane Fiona in September, has yet to recover from the destruction caused by the natural disaster. Some areas are still without power and water, as most of the archipelago's infrastructure and power grid suffered significant damage due to severe flooding and high winds.
The Gators are collecting donations at the door and will pledge all proceeds raised during the Chuck-a-Duck contest to the relief efforts. Additionally, the volleyball team will hold a 50/50 raffle at the football game against Grove City College, which begins with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Frank B. Fuhrer Field on Saturday night.
Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) and
Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)), two first-year student-athletes on the Allegheny volleyball team and Puerto Rico natives, organized the fundraiser in hopes of helping their communities back home.
