Allegheny Basketball Community Day Scheduled for This Saturday

MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College basketball teams welcome the local community on Saturday (Jan. 6) for their North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tilt against Denison University.

Admission for both the men's and women's games will be free, with the women's game starting at 1 p.m. and the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.

"We look forward to welcoming the Meadville community into the Wise Center to cheer on both Gators teams on what should be a fun filled Saturday of Gator Hoops," said Gator Women's Head Coach Kate Costanzo.

During halftime of the men's game, the Gators will honor the 2016-17 Meadville High School Boys' Basketball team.  Last season, the Meadville Bulldogs won the District 10 5A Championship over Cathedral Prep.  After the winning the District 10 title, the Bulldogs won four straight games in the PIAA Playoffs before falling to Archbishop Wood in the State Championship to finish the season with a 26-2 record.

"I am a big believer in giving back to the community that my family and I live in and am happy to welcome the Meadville Community to the Wise Center this Saturday afternoon," said Gator Men's Head Coach Bob Simmons.  "I am also happy to honor and recognize the Meadville Area High School Boys Basketball team for their impressive performance last season."

The Bulldogs' basketball run was part of a memorable year for the high school's athletic department, which also enjoyed a wealth of success. The football team won the District 10 championship and collected a state playoff win, the hockey team won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey league title, and the softball team won the District 10 championship.
