AMHERST, N.Y.— The Allegheny College men's tennis competed at day one of the Daemen Invitational Friday (Sept. 15).
The eight team Invitational featured schools from all divisions.
Jacob Stringer picked up a first round win in the Indigo Bracket against Tyler Underwood of Division-II Le Moyne College. In the opening set, Underwood took advantage of a break to win 6-4. Stringer made up for it in the second set, picking up the 6-3 win to force a deciding third set tiebreaker. In the extra session, Stringer broke Underwood multiple times to win the tiebreak 10-6 and advance to the next round.
In the Green Bracket,
Mackenzie Knowlton picked up a win over Pablo Martinez Hernadex of host Daemen, a Division-II institute. In the opening set, Knowlton cruised to a 6-2 win before cleanly sweeping set two to advance to the second round.
Colton Johnson Taylor had a close match against Ricardo Ruiz Martinez in the first round of the Orange Bracket. Johnson Taylor utilized a break in the opening set to win 6-3 before Ruiz Martinez responded with a 6-2 win in set two. In the tiebreaker, Ruiz Martinex broke Johnson Taylor and picked up the tiebreak win 10-6.
In the Red Bracket,
Jai Redkar faced Jacob Daugherty of Division-I Colgate University. The match was close but Daugherty picked up the win 6-3, 6-4.
In the Violet bracket,
Cooper Miller had a back-and-forth match against Jose Williamson III of Daemen but ultimately fell 9-7.
The Gators return to action at Daemen Saturday (Sept. 16).
