Box Score 2 PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Allegheny College volleyball team closed the St. John Fisher College Invitational by splitting its final two matches this afternoon.
Allegheny (8-5, 0-0 NCAC) defeated Buffalo State in three sets (25-11, 25-11, 25-11), but saw its six-match winning streak snapped by Baldwin Wallace over the same timeframe (16-25, 16-25, 17-25).
The Gators featured a very efficient attack against the Bengals, hitting at a .291 clip with 34 kills over the trio of frames. Buffalo State had no answer for junior middle hitter
Leah Franzluebbers, who tallied 11 kills on a .563 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter
Alysha Crowther and junior setter
Justine Kelly also hit over .300 for the match, collecting seven and five kills, respectively.
Kelly was a pair of digs shy of posting her fourth double-double of the season and second in as many days, finishing the match with 31 assists and eight digs. Her classmate
Terra Schall paced Allegheny with 14 digs, while junior outside hitter
Karissa Welker (12) and third-year defensive specialist
Kylee Karczewski (10) were also in double figures.
The Gators also picked up 12 points through service aces, with Welker and sophomore defensive specialist
Rachel Slotterback each registering four apiece.
In its second match, Allegheny couldn't avenge a season-opening loss to the Yellow Jackets.
Franzluebbers led the Gators with nine kills, while junior outside hitter
Hannah Cubarney added seven. Although sophomore middle hitter
Meghan Uht provided a spark at the net with three kills on six swings, Allegheny hit just .110 as a team compared to Baldwin Wallace's .308 clip.
Schall again paced the Gators defensively with a team-high 15 digs. Slotterback added 10 from the back row, while Franzluebbers and Uht each picked up a pair of blocks.
Kelly dished out 24 assists in the loss.
Allegheny travels two hours northeast for its next match when it faces off against Pitt-Bradford at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
