GLASSBORO, N.J. - Competing in one of the largest Division III events of the year, the Allegheny men's cross country team placed 14th at the Rowan University Border Clash.

The 44-team, 383-runner field featured 10 squads ranked in the most recent USTFCCCA national poll.

Junior Carter Smith continued his strong season, as he placed 17th with a time of 24:01.2 in the 8K race to establish a new personal record by over 70 seconds.

Senior Randy Violette was the Gators' second man, placing 45th in 24:34, his top time of the season and just two seconds off of a new PR, while junior John Hughes' time of 24:44 was a 10-second PR, and good for 61st overall.

Senior Emmett Barr and junior Ben Evans also added new personal records, with the former shaving 59 seconds off of his previous mark to finish in 26:12, while Evans turned in a time of 25:48, 48 seconds faster than his prior personal record.

Seth Conard was Allegheny's top underclass finisher, tuning in his fastest 8K of the season with a time of 25:55, while junior Justin Koch took 20 seconds off of his previous PR with a time of 26:08.

Top-ranked SUNY-Geneseo claimed the team title, led by individual champ Isaac Garcia-Cassani (23:19), as the Knights finished with 71 points.  Fifth-ranked MIT took second, and #11 RPI took third.

The Gators will now have a two-week break, as they prep for the championship season.  Allegheny will look to defend its North Coast Athletic Conference title when it returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 30 at the 2016 NCAC Championships, hosted by DePauw University.
