GAMBIER, Ohio – Despite locking in a win at third-flight doubles, the Gators dropped a first-round, 5-1 bout to third-seeded Denison on Friday evening at Vanden Berg Courts on the campus of Kenyon College.
The No. 3 doubles squad of senior
Daniel Conroy and freshman
Jai Redkar picked up an 8-6 win at third-flight doubles, but an early, 2-1 advantage for Denison turned into a match clinch with three consecutive singles victories. The Gators battled the Big Red throughout doubles, as the top-flight pairing of juniors
Thomas Manning and
Tyler Triolo dropped an 8-6 decision and the senior squad of
Alexander Hurtuk and
Sam Stephenson fell, 8-5.
In singles, Triolo fell, 6-3, 6-1, as a 6-0, 7-5 setback for Conroy and a 6-1, 6-1 decision with Redkar at sixth-flight allowed Denison to clinch the match.
The Gators will return to the court at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th to battle either Wabash or Oberlin to close out the 2014-15 campaign.
