Similar to last year's Hilton Head spring training finale, the Gators started the match with singles play. Junior
Tyler Triolo was the lone Gator to win his singles match, as he won at the top flight position, 6-2, 6-1. Triolo finished the week with an impressive 4-1 record in singles. Junior
Thomas Manning managed to take his match to a super tie-breaker after losing the first set, but eventually fell at the No. 2 singles position 6-1, 3-6, 2-10 which proved to be a turning point in the match.
After the setback in singles, Allegheny rallied to sweep doubles. The top flight doubles duo of Manning and Triolo took down Carleton's Andrew Hwang and Erik Johnson, who were most recently ranked No. 14 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Central Region, 8-5. At second flight doubles, seniors Alex Hurtuk and
Sam Stephenson picked up an 8-4 victory. Senior
Daniel Conroy and junior
Samarth Gopal won at third flight doubles, 8-5, to complete the sweep. The pairings of Manning/Triolo and Conroy/Gopal held a perfect 5-0 record on the week.
The Gators (5-5) will return to action next weekend when they play three matches at home. Allegheny will take on Washington and Jefferson College on March 27th, as well as two conference opponents, Wittenberg University and Ohio Wesleyan University, on March 28th and 29th, respectively.
