CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior
Daniel Conroy and freshman
Jai Redkar gave the Gators a win at third-flight doubles, but the nationally ranked No. 8 and regionally-ranked No. 2 Case Western Reserve Spartans defeated the Gators, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
Conroy and Redkar picked up an 8-4 win over the Case doubles pairing of Tytus Chen and Freddy Daum, sending the Gators into the singles portion of the meet only trailing the Spartans, 2-1. Conroy would tack on a hard-fought battle at fifth-flight singles, picking up a 6-3 win in the first set before falling to Chen, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.
The top-flight pairing of juniors
Tyler Triolo and
Thomas Manning fell, 8-2 to the nationally ranked No. 11 pairing of Christopher Krimbill and Louis Stuerke. Krimbill also added a win at top-flight singles over Triolo, 6-2, 6-1.
Manning battled with Case's Will Drougas but dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision. The senior second-flight doubles team of
Alexander Hurtuk and
Sam Stephenson were defeated, 8-2, by the Spartan squad of Drougas and Andrew Komarov.
Saturday's match is the final warm-up for the Gators before the squad's annual spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Gators will kick off their spring break schedule against Albright College on March 15th at 8:30 a.m.
