Results

MEADVILLE, Pa.
– Despite a pair of wins in doubles, the Allegheny men's tennis team lost its season opener, 7-2, to Carnegie Mellon at the 11th Annual Nancy J. Heath Invitational on Saturday morning at the David V. Wise Center.

The senior pairing of Alexander Hurtuk and Sam Stephenson picked up a second-flight doubles win, 8-5, to spark an early Allegheny rally.  Freshman Jai Redkar and junior Thomas Manning won their No. 3 doubles match, 9-8 (6), to give the Gators a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Carnegie Mellon responded with a sweep of singles play, although the Gators were able to make several strong attempts at taking the match from the Tartans, who finished last season ranked No. 9 in the nation according to the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings.  Manning fell at second-flight singles, 6-3, 7-6 (5).  Redkar led off his No. 5 singles match with a 6-3 win, but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.  Conroy picked up a first set, 7-6 win, but dropped a 6-7, 6-4, 10-3, sixth-flight singles match.

The Gators will next host Walsh University at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
