OBERLIN, Ohio – The Gators posted an 8-4 record in doubles play, led by sweeps from three Allegheny pairs, as the Gators finished a successful first day at the 2013 Oberlin Invitational.
Senior
Patrick Cole finished the first day of the invite with a 4-0 record between singles and doubles. The senior and sophomore
Tyler Triolo picked a pair of victories over two teams from Case Western Reserve. The Allegheny duo opened their tournament schedule with an 8-5 win before closing Saturday with an 8-4 decision. Juniors
Sam Stephenson and
Alexander Hurtuk also won two decisions, defeating a squad from Heidelberg, 8-3, before picking up an 8-5 win over a Case Western Reserve pairing.
Sophomore
Thomas Manning and senior
Charlie Murphy closed the trio of Allegheny sweeps; as the pair posted a 2-0 record with an 8-2 win over Case followed by an 8-6 victory over Baldwin Wallace. Senior
Frank Mosconi and junior
Daniel Conroy won an 8-6 decision over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe Oberlin, as senior
Kevin Snyder and sophomore
Amadeus Nunaley-Connor picked up an 8-5 win over Baldwin Wallace.
In singles play, Cole defeated members of the Case and Oberlin squads, as Manning also finished the first day of singles action with a 2-0 record after a pair of wins over Oberlin. Murphy came back from an early deficit to pick up a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory over the Yeomen, as Stephenson picked up a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 victory and Nunaley-Connor won his first round match, 6-4, 6-0.
The Gators will close out the invitational on Sunday, and will return to the David V. Wise Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to take on John Carroll.
