ANNVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team finished its weekend road trip with another shutout victory, as the Gators defeated Lebanon Valley College, 7-0, on Saturday.
With Saturday's nonconference win, the Gators improved to 5-0 in dual matches during the fall portion of the season. They'll now enjoy a lengthy winter break before returning to action in February.
Allegheny opened the match by capturing the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 2 and a 6-3 victory at No. 3. The top duo of
David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) and
Reid Stasolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) overcame an early deficit to force a tiebreaker, but fell to LVC's (2-4) Jesse Beck and Zach Schrader, 7-6 (6).
Freshman standout
Adam Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) earned his third singles win of the weekend while playing atop the lineup. He beat Schrader in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3, sophomore
Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István) dropped only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win. Fellow sophomore
Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) held his opponent in the fourth singles match off the scoreboard while winning all 12 games played.
