Men's Tennis Battles #18 Carnegie Mellon, Oberlin

MONROEVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team faced a pair of challenging opponents to open the spring portion of the 2025-26 season Saturday on the indoor courts at the Rashid Hassan Tennis Center.

Allegheny's doubleheader began with a 6-1 loss to No. 18 nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, before falling to Oberlin College by a 5-2 final score.

Against the No. 18 Tartans (1-0), whose lineup featured the eighth-ranked singles player in Division III, the Gators (5-2) earned a victory in the fifth singles match. Junior Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) swept Braden Chavez in their first set and completed the win in the second set, 6-3. Senior Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) pushed his opponent to a super tiebreaker in the sixth spot, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 0-6, 7-6 (3), 0-1 (2) loss.

Bejarano Jimenez also earned one of Allegheny's two points against Oberlin (1-1), a tough Central Region foe. He rebounded from a first-set loss to defeat Cameron Weiss in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (3). Out of the No. 1 spot, freshman Adam Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) beat Shawn Lisann with identical 6-3 set scores.
