MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team earned its first two dual-match victories of the season with a pair of shutouts against Juniata College and the University of Mount Union at home on Friday.

The Gators (2-0) won 15 of the 16 total matches played against the shorthanded Eagles (1-1) and Purple Raiders (2-2). Unable to field a full lineup, Juniata forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.

The only loss Allegheny suffered was the No. 1 doubles match against Mount Union. However, the Gators still earned the doubles point with a 6-3 win by Reid Stasolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) at No. 2 and a 6-2 victory by Mitchell Curtis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) and Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) at No. 3.

In singles competition, the Blue and Gold were undefeated. In the opener against Juniata, Adam Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) rebounded from a 6-2 first-set loss to beat Maksims Kazancevs in the second, 7-5, and the super tiebreaker, 10-6. Kaibas also needed a tiebreaker to capture his first set over Gustaf Geremia, 7-6 (7), before blanking Juniata's No. 4 player in the second set. The longest showdown under the lights against Mount Union was Ari Sutin's (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Gabe McDade-Povick in the No. 6 position.
