MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team and Case Western Reserve University competed in the Blue and Gold Invitational on Saturday at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
The Gators and Spartans played a dozen doubles matches and 23 singles matches. Case Western Reserve, which ended last year ranked third in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings after advancing to the national championship match, provided a challenging opponent for the Gators as they prepare for next week's ITA Central Regional Championships.
Adam Memije (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) and
Justin Hardie (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) picked up both of Allegheny's wins in the first round of singles action. Memije rebounded from a first-set loss to take down Rohan Bhat in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (7), 6-4, 10-8. Hardie defeated Justin Prochnow in a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-4, 7-6 (8) victory.
