Jessica Napierata picked up a strong performance on the service line, tallying three service aces, also leading the Gators to a critical, 9-0, third-set opening run.
In the first set, the two squads traded serves back and forth, playing to a 10-10 stalemate midway through the game. However, DePauw picked up a six-point run to take a 16-10 lead, ultimately taking the first set and early advantage, 25-16. The Tigers jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second set, keeping the Allegheny offense at bay en route to a 25-14 victory, earning the two-set advantage.
Under service from Napierata, the Gators erupted out of the break for a 9-0 lead. Taking advantage of three attack errors and one ball handling error by DePauw, kills by Gawley and Sheppard along with a pair of aces from Napierata gave the Gators the big lead early on in the set. However, the Tigers struck right back with a 10-point run of their own, taking a 10-9 lead in the third.
Allegheny and DePauw battled back and forth down the stretch of the third, as a 21-16 lead for DePauw quickly vanished under another six-point run under service from Napierata, giving Allegheny a 22-21 advantage. DePauw withstood three Allegheny attempts to close out the set with the serve, closing the match with a three-point run that resulted in a 28-26 Tigers decision and the sweep.
The Gators will close out their 2013 home slate on Saturday, as they welcome North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent Wittenberg and United Athletic Association (UAA) member Case Western Reserve to the David V. Wise Center for their second tri-match of the season.
