Box Score Box Score

GREENCASTLE, Ind. –
A late goal by senior defenseman Joe Caruso was not enough for the men's soccer squad, as Allegheny closed out the 2012 regular season with a 4-1 road loss to DePauw on Saturday at Boswell Field.

The Gators (13-4-1 overall, 5-3-1 NCAC) were eliminated from North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) postseason contention after Kenyon College defeated Wittenberg University on Saturday.

Allegheny was outscored by the Tigers (12-1-4 overall, 6-1-2 NCAC) 3-0 in the first half, as DePauw was able to strike early, finding the back of the net in the 4th minute to take an early lead.  The Tigers would add goals in the 21st minute and the 35th minute to enter the half with a three-goal advantage.

In the second half, the Gators began to get good looks at the net, but DePauw goalkeeper Tony Halterman made several crucial saves in the second frame to maintain the lead.  The Tigers would add an insurance goal in the 61st minute.

Caruso would score in the 77th minute off of a corner kick.  Fellow senior defenseman Timothy Egan earned the assist, which came off of one of Allegheny's seven corner kick opportunities.  The Gators were outshot, 14-8 in the match as junior goalkeeper John Lichina made four saves.
