GREENVILLE, Ind. – The Gators fell, 3-0, to DePauw University Friday night at Neal Fieldhouse to kick off the team's final North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) weekend of the season.
Allegheny (6-20 overall, 2-5 NCAC) was led by freshman outside hitter
Julia Weeks, who finished the match with seven kills. Freshman middle hitter
Sarah Swartz recorded three solo blocks as fellow freshman and defensive specialist
Baylie Sheppard recorded six kills and tallied a team-high with six digs. Junior setter
Madie Hudac finished the match with 10 assists, two kills and two digs.
After dropping the first set, 25-7, Allegheny tied the second set at 8-8 after a kill by Weeks. DePauw (21-3 overall, 6-1 NCAC) went on an 8-2 run to take a commanding 16-10 lead, winning the second game, 25-16.
The Tigers finished the sweep with a 25-19 decision in the third set. The Gators closed the gap to three after sophomore setter
Kristen Dennis recorded a kill off an assist by Swartz, but the Tigers were able to lengthen the gap and ultimately put the match out of reach with a 7-3 run.
The Gators travel to Springfield, Ohio for a tri-match featuring defending national champion Wittenberg and Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Marietta on Saturday.
