Allegheny Drops Two at Kenyon Tri-Match

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Allegheny women's volleyball squad came into Saturday's matches riding a two game winning streak. The Gators would play strong, but were unable to keep the momentum going as they fell to Kenyon 2-3 (19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 11-15) in their first match of the day, and followed by falling to Case Western Reserve 0-3 (14-25, 12-25, 17-25) in their final contest.

Allegheny would come very close to recording victory number three in a row, when they took the Ladies to the brink on their home court. After falling down 1-0 early, the Gators would answer back tying the match at one with a 25-21 victory. After falling down 2-1, again Allegheny would claw their way back in the match, tying it at two with another 25-21 victory. The fifth and final set would be a close knit affair; however, Kenyon would take the set and the match with a 15-11 victory.

The five setter was the fourth time the Gators have gone the distance in conference play, with Allegheny going 1-3 in those matches.

Senior Caitlin Rothman led the team with 20 kills, while fellow senior Audra Batdorff was not far behind with 13. Sophomore setter Madie Hudac dished out 30 assists, and senior Winnie Wong paced Allegheny with an impressive 21 digs as the Gators would have to turn right around and face their final non-conference opponent of the season in Case Western Reserve.

The Spartans would come out firing on all cylinders, as they would jump on the Gators from the start. Allegheny would get stronger as the match went on; however, it wasn't enough as Case Western would sweep the Gators 3-0.

The losses drop Allegheny to 11-20 overall on the season, and 4-20 in NCAC play. The Gators won't take to the court until Friday, October 28 when they will host conference foe DePauw University at 7:00 pm.
