Men's Tennis Edged in Third-Place Contest

Box Scores: Allegheny vs. Denison | Allegheny vs. Wabash

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Allegheny men's tennis team lost its first match to Denison, 6-1, and then fell to Wabash in a marathon third-place contest, 5-4, at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday.

In the nightcap, the Gators rallied from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play. They brought the match to a 4-4 tie, but ultimately fell when Jonathan Jordan was defeated at No. 5 singles.

Allegheny's top four singles players -- Alex Bonfiglio, Mike Provenzano, Max Hennessy and Jacob Allmaras -- claimed victories.

Bonfiglio defeated Zach Lowry on the first tier, 6-4, 6-4, while Provenzano won the second singles match against Peter Gunderman, 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.

At third singles, Hennessy handled Ricky Ritter, 6-1, 6-1. Allmaras bested Elliott Dewey, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

Jordan's match came down the a third set. At one point, he had to take a medical timeout before dropping the decision to Ian Leonard, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-2.

Against Denison, Bonfiglio and Jordan provided the Gators' only win. They beat Tom Cawood and Adam Seeley, 8-4.
