GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Allegheny men's tennis team fell to Denison, 5-1, in its opener of the Great Lakes Colleges Association Tournament, but then rebounded for a 5-0 victory over Oberlin on Friday.
The Gators (7-8) swept doubles play before
Mike Provenzano and
Jonathan Jordan snagged singles victories to clinch the Blue and Gold win against Oberlin (3-16). Provenzano defeated Joe Leffler at second singles, 6-2, 6-2. Jordan claimed his point at sixth singles against Sergio Sanchez, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition,
Max Hennessy and
Ben Hurtuk defeated Ben Godlove and Eliot Heaten on the first tier, 8-2. Provenzano and Jordan handled Leffler and Sam Townie at second doubles, 8-3, while
Jacob Allmaras and
Alex Bonfiglio swept Sanchez and Peder Davis, 8-0, at thirds.
In the loss to Denison (12-1), which is ranked ninth in the Central Region, Allmaras and Bonfiglio claimed the only Gator point. They defeated Tom Cawood and Adam Seeley at third doubles, 8-5.
Allegheny will be in action again on Saturday when it takes on Wabash. The match will happen at Kenyon, beginning at 9 a.m.
