CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team defeated Allegheny
College 9-0 in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon.
Ben Hurtuk and Max Hennessy only fell by two sets to John Smetona and Nicolas Howe at No. 1 singles, 8-6. The Spartans took the next two doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead in the match.
In the singles matches, Smetona posted a straight-set victory over Alex Bonfiglio, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Kyle Gerber, a No. 3 doubles player, picked up the No. 2 singles win over Mike Provenzano, 6-2, 6-2.
Evan Gordan battled Sean Carr to three sets, winning the fist 6-3 and then falling 6-1 and 10-2 at the No. 4 spot.
Case Western went on to win the next three matches for the sweep and its eight victory of the season.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday against Mt. Union. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
