GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --
Chris Marker placed second, leading a trio of top-ten finishers for Allegheny as the Gator men's cross country team won the team championship at Calvin College's Knight Invitational on Saturday.
Marker finished the eight-kilometer course in 25:01.3, trailing only Zach Ripley of Cornerstone University (24:56.3). Also in the top ten,
Jeramie Parker took sixth (25:12.0) and
Zac Ross was eighth (25:18.8) for the Gators, who scored 48 team points to beat out 13 other squads.
Other Allegheny finishers included
Jake Zimmerman, who placed 12th in 25:31.2;
Tony Dipre, who crossed the line 20th in 25:50.7;
Pat McLaughlin, who claimed 21st in 25:52.5; and
Matt Lacombe, who was 38th in 26:25.7.
The Calvin men were runners-up with 83 points and Ohio Northern finished third with 95.
Allegheny will compete again next on Oct. 2 at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh, in Bethlehem, Pa.
