MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Tyler White scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Wilmington over the Allegheny men's basketball team, 71-57, in the Allegheny Holiday Tournament championship game at the David V. Wise Center on Sunday. The Quaker victory spoiled the day for the Gators and their senior, George Raftis, who eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark.

Early in the second half, the Quakers went on an 18-5 run, led by Brandon Candella and White, who contributed six and five points, respectively, during the stretch. Wilmington's lead eventually ballooned to 20 points at 62-42 on a layup by Brandon Rogers.

With back-to-back layups by Devone McLeod, Allegheny finished a 12-3 streak, which pulled them within 11 points at 65-54. However, that was as close as the hosts would get.

Raftis, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, needed four points to reach 1,000 and finished with six. With 17:14 left in the first half, his layup helped the Gators to a 6-4 lead and propelled him to the milestone.

Allegheny (3-1) led by three on four separate occasions, but could not find a way to extend the advantage. Craig Devinney made two free throws with 5:25 remaining in the first half to put the Gators ahead 27-25 -- their last lead of the game. Wilmington's Antonio Bowman responded with four straight free throws and then White made a layup before a Devinney layup forged a 31-29 Quaker lead at halftime.

Forty-seven seconds into the second period, Henry Heeter tied the game at 31-31 before Wilmington (5-1) went on its decisive run.

McLeod was Allegheny's leading scorer, finishing with 17 points. Heeter and Devinney made three assists each for a Gator squad, which shot decent from the field -- 20 of 50 (40 percent) -- but was doomed by its 30 turnovers.

For Wilmington, Candella and Tyler Ledford contributed 11 points and three steals apiece. White also had three steals, Candella added seven rebounds and four assists and Rogers grabbed seven rebounds. Bowman and R.J. Brown were named to the All-Tournament Team; Brown was the MVP.

In the tournament consolation game, Case Western defeated Montclair State, 67-63. Eric Duerr had a double-double for the Spartans (4-2), finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while All-Tournament selection Collin Mulholland put in 14 points. For the Red Hawks (3-2), All-Tournament honoree Daniel McRae scored 13 points and Ken Dudley added 12.

Allegheny will be in action next on Wednesday when it visits Penn State Behrend. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
